Tattoo Aftercare Instructions:

  • Salve/ Ointment: After remving your bandage, wrap, tegaderm, second skin, sani-derm, etc. with clean hands, apply the Salve/ Ointment (H2Ocean® Aquatat®, Aquaphor®, Tattoo Goo®, Bag Balm®,  or A & D as often as you want, but we suggest 3 times a day (morning, afternoon, and night) or as needed. Apply a small amount on the tattoo and gently masage in until the entire tattoo is covered. Dab off excess with a paper towel. Your tattoo should have satin/ semi gloss look or sheen.  Too much ointment can cause folliculitis (clogging of the poors/ red bumps/ swelling) and too little can cause for an undesireable slow and dry healing process (heavy scabbing).  Do not use topical Neosporin, Triple antibiotics, or Polysporin type products, unless otherwise directed to do so by your artist.

  • Wear something old, but clean to bed the first couple of nights. Most tattoos will “ooze” and seep clear plasma and excess ink for the first day and night. This is normal but can stain sheets and clothes. If your tattoo sticks to your cloting or clean sheets, use some warm water to loosen the dried plasma.  Do not just pull the dry item off of your tattoo, because you may damage the tattoo and your skin and bleeding can occur causing the tattoo to not heal properly.

  • Cleanse: H2Ocean® Foam soap or an anti-bacterial soap can be and should be used as much as possible during the critical healing days of the tattoo (24 to 72 hours). Dispense the foam into the palm of your clean hands and apply onto the tattoo. H2Ocean foam soap is a waterless cleaner for on the go body art collectors, however any other anti-bacteria soap, unless otherwise stated, shall be rinsed away from the  tattoo with luke-warm water after every application.  NO SOAKING OR SWIMMING! Be aware of where you are, what you touch and whom or what touches your tattoo.  Keep in mind that a fresh tattoo is a surface wound, and infections can be obtained from most any person or surface.

  • Lotion: After 1 to 2 weeks, switch from the Salve/ Ointment to a Lotion, the recommended fragrence free lotions would be like a Lubriderm® or Eucerine® for moderate to extra dry skin containing aloe vera. You will know when to start using lotion when the tattoo starts the beginning stages of peeling. USE THE LOTION INDEFINITELY, and always use sunblock to protect your tattoo from direct sunlight, UV rays can damage your tattoo and your skin.

  • Swelling and bruising of the area around the tattoo is common. Some people bruise easily, some do not. In addition, certain areas are more prone to bruising and swelling. Lower extremity tattoos (ankles, feet, calves) are more prone to swelling if you have to be on your feet for prolonged periods. Ibuprofen and elevating the affected area can help. Tattoos on the feet and wrist are notoriously hard to heal. These areas also have a higher chance of becoming infected because of exposure to germs and bacteria due to door knobs, keyboards, computer mice, dirty shoes, carpet, etc. It is EXTREMELY important to keep these areas clean and to NEVER touch your tattoo with dirty hands. When wearing shoes, make sure they are loose fitting and all socks should be smooth and “fuzz free” on the inside.

  • We gurantee our tattoo work...but only if you have followed our instructions as stated on this site. If necessary touch-up becomes necessary, they are  free within the first two months after the tattoo project was finished. We then charge $30 dollars for any potential touchups during the 3rd to the 5th month.  If you request a touch up after the 6th month the minimum amount charged is $60, however the charging for touch-ups is at the studio manager and artist's discretion because they know if you followed the instructions as suggested.

Piercing Aftercare Instructions:

L.I.T.H.A. (LEAVE IT  THE HECK ALONE!)

  • No touching, rotating, or taking out your jewelry! The more you mess with your piercing, the longer it takes to heal! Unless you are cleaning it, try to pretend it isn’t there!

  • WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE CLEANING YOUR PIERCING!

  • Rinse your piercing 2 times a day with H2Ocean® spray, NeilMed® OR STERILE Saline. (DO NOT CLEAN WITH Q-TIPS!)

  • NEVER use Alcohol, Peroxide, Bactine®, Betadine®, Hibiclens®, or other harsh soaps/cleansers. These can over clean your piercing, damage cells, and slow the healing process.

  • Avoid ointments (A&D, Neosporin®, Bacitracin®, Etc.) AND lotions as they prevent necessary air circulation, attract dirt, and trap in moisture.

  • Avoid all beauty and personal care products on or around your piercing. (Cosmetics, Powders, Lotions, Sprays, Etc.) These will irritate and possibly infect your new piercing.

  • Tighten the balls on your jewelry at least once daily to prevent loss.

  • NO SWIMMING! POOLS, LAKES, RIVERS, HOT TUBS, BATHS, THE OCEAN… STAY OUT OF THEM UNTIL YOU ARE HEALED! SHOWERS ARE FINE. Avoid putting fragranced body wash directly on your new piercing while showering. Rinse your piercing thoroughly after washing.

  • Wait to change your jewelry until you are healed. Removing the jewelry before you are healed will cause unnecessary irritation and extend your healing time.

If you need help changing your jewelry we can change it for a $5 Jewelry Change Fee | $10 for Dermal Top Changes

  • FOR DERMALS: KEEP INITIAL BAND AID ON FOR 24HRS

(Only switch your band aid if it falls off or is dirty, cleaning your dermal with solution before replacing. You must cover your dermal with a band aid before any activity that may put it in danger of being pulled out, indefinitely.)

  • Like with a new/ fresh Tattoo, the same principles apply to a new Body Piercing:

  1. DO NOT LET ANIMALS IN YOUR BED.

  2. WASH BEDDING WEEKLY WHILE HEALING.

  3. WEAR CLEAN, LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING OVER YOUR NEW PIERCING.

  • Your piercing will possibly be sore, red, and have ‘crusties’ around the jewelry. The Saline Spray/Wound Wash is used to remove the ‘crusties’ from around your piercing. DO NOT PICK THEM OFF!

ORAL PIERCING AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE TOUCHING YOUR PIERCING!

  • Clean out your mouth 3 times a day with an Antimicrobial/Antibacterial alcohol-free mouth rinse.

  • Tighten the balls on your jewelry at least once daily to prevent loss.

WHAT IS NORMAL?

  • For the first three to five days: significant swelling, light bleeding, bruising, and/or tenderness.

  • After that: Some swelling, light secretion of a whitish yellow fluid (not pus).

  • A piercing may seem healed before the healing process is complete. This is because they heal from the outside in, and although it feels fine, the tissue remains fragile on the inside. Be patient, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.

WHAT TO DO TO HELP REDUCE SWELLING!

  • Allow small pieces of ice to dissolve in the mouth.

  • Take an over the counter, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen or naproxen sodium according to package instructions.

  • Don't speak or move your jewelry more than necessary.

  • Sleep with your head elevated above your heart during the first few nights.

 WHAT TO AVOID

  • Do not play with your jewelry. Long term effects include permanent damage to teeth, gums, and other oral structures.

  • Avoid undue trauma; excessive talking or playing with the jewelry during healing can cause the formation of unsightly and uncomfortable scar tissue, migration, and other complications.

  • Avoid using mouthwash containing alcohol. It can irritate the piercing and delay healing.

  • Avoid oral sexual contact including French (wet) kissing or oral sex during healing (even with a long-term partner).

  • Avoid chewing on tobacco, gum, fingernails, pencils, sunglasses, and other foreign objects that could harbor bacteria.

  • Avoid smoking! It increases risks and lengthens healing time.

  • Avoid aspirin, alcohol, and large amounts of caffeine as long as you are experiencing bleeding or swelling.

  • Avoid submerging healing piercings in bodies of water such as the ocean, lakes, pools, etc.

  • Avoid using straws (for tongue piercings) as they put pressure on the jewelry and may cause it to embed/migrate.
